Another basic one that could be important - When I record at say sample rate, does the audio captured have a certain bit depth? Anyway the important thing I'm trying to see is - when importing audio into a Logic Project, does Logic convert the imported file. If I browse the files folder of my project, can I right click on each one and verify the Bit Depth?

Only iTunes seems to show this info,. Sample Rates - Audacity Wiki. Audio bit depth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. MP3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Logic Pro X, and other daws, have no problem working with mixed bit depth files since the audio engine process in floating point anyway.

Logic will show you the bit depth and sample rate in the Project File Browser. You can also use the info pane in finder or QuickTime for more information. Mac mini 2. I was talking about the dropdown list from audio settings which has option of ,,, etc - I often have to toggle. Good to know!! What issues? If the playback engine doesn't mind like you mentioned above? DAWs: Cannot be set to a fixed bit depth, they work internally on a different bit depth system very briefly said.

Don't mind using 8bit, 16bit, 24bit or 32bit although I don't know if In earlier version you weren't able to import them at all, so no worries audio files mixed in a session. Different sample rates of audio files will result in lower or higher pitch, than you set in your DAW see above.

But usually when you import audio files with a different sample rate than your session, Logic will ask you to convert them. Logic Different sample rates of audio files will result in lower or higher pitch of the audio files with a different sample rate, than you set in your DAW see above. Thanks Stardust! It's funny how long I've been recording and not focused on that. Well it seems as though since I've never gone in. I do import files sometimes, so hopefully they've all been converted, which I can just check real quick with a small test project.

My default rate has been Wondering if the CLA compressors plugins can compensate for a lower rate, I know they seem to add volume and clarity to my recordings. Also wondering if the "aliasing" problem can be fixed by mixing tools?

To my ear, most of the my stuff sounds good, but I guess if it's a problem on every track of a 80 track song that it can really add up and hinder audio clarity and mastering.. No, the audio quality of your recordings have not suffered.

If you'd recorded at a higher rate such as for example 96kHz, your converters' clock would have been under more stress to run the clock at double the speed and chances are the clock would have created more jitter, resulting in more distortion in your recordings.

My new Logic Pro Book is out! To your question: No, aliasing cannot be fixed afterwards, not without "destroying" the original signal.

Aliasing is created during the conversion a the not so good audio interface do these still exist today? Or it's created thru plugins with poor "code". Aliasing are the frequencies above half the frequency Nyquist frequency of the sample rate frequency, "mirrored" back into the audible range. So, what you would need are signals, that go above 22kHz if you work with For converters: An analog audio signal above that. For plugins: Don't know exactly, but one thing could be if they sample up internally and then again down to the original rate, in a "bad" way.

Another thing are software isntruments. In that case you can test it by playing a very high note, like C8 or higher. Frequencies that are now above the Nyquist frequency will now be mirrored back.

Maybe there are also other causes for aliasing from plugins, I don't know of. So, to take out aliasing artifacts, you'd need to filter them out hicut , but then you'd also would filter the original signal. And, usually signals clearly below the Nyquist frequency shouldn't have any aliasing but who knows how badly plugins can be coded. I'm not sure, if what you think is aliasing, is really aliasing. With nowadays plugins and converters you can neglect this effect.

Maybe aliasing cannot be completely avoided, but at least I think it's not worth to bother about it anymore. I guess you talk about something else, although I'm, by all means, no expert. Dave, not a Logic problem.. I had just seen a youtube video explaining Bit Depth and Sample Rate and it mentioned that aliasing CAN occur at times, so that's all I was referring to You can post now and register later.

RoyFan Posted June 24, Posted June 24, I think you need to research this a little bit more. You can definitely run into issues if you are not careful with sample rate. Posted June 24, edited.
